“Home is where the heart is…”
We’ve all heard that saying before and maybe even saw it once embroidered on a pillow in our grandmother’s house. But is your home a place of peace and love? Or chaos and disorder? God wants us all to live in peace and tranquility. Isaiah 32:18 says “My people will abide in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places.”
Our homes can be just that. A quiet place where we can rest, regroup and enjoy our relationships with our families and with God. Maintaining a healthy personal environment also allows you to live up to the full potential that God has for you. If you keep your house free of clutter, you free yourself from the unnecessary stress of searching for lost items. Likewise, maintaining your vehicle prevents the unwanted hassle and expense of repairs. By keeping these negative experiences at a minimum, we are able to focus more of our time on the things we enjoy and the gifts God has blessed us with. Whether you live in a small apartment or a large house, your home can be a place where you feel safe, respected and relaxed. Surround yourself with things you love – precious mementos from family and friends or the love of a treasured pet. But most importantly, fill your home with love and glory for God.
“As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”–Joshua 24:15
Stop and take a moment to consider how you’re doing right now in a few areas that have an impact on the peace and tranquility of your home. None of these have to be perfect; however, we can attend to these proactively to minimize the stress in our homes so we can give our attention to the important things in life – our loved ones and a peaceful home environment.
