“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” – Psalm 139:13, 16
How amazing is it to know that before we were even formed in our mother’s wombs, God already knew who we were to become. He already knew every detail of our physical appearance, our personality, our skills and talents, our desires and passions. He intricately weaved us together just right before we were ever born onto this earth.
Unfortunately in our busy lives, it is easy to forget this when we are being bombarded with demands from work, family, school and church. We try to wear a hundred different hats and be everything to everyone… the best parent, the star employee, the loyal volunteer. And somewhere along the way, we take on all of this as our identity.
When someone asks you to tell them about yourself, you immediately start listing them off like a pre-recorded track, “Well I’m a mother of three, I’ve been married for 15 years, I work as a bank teller…”
Although your job and your family are certainly important parts of your life, they are not who you are.
Your identity is in Christ alone.
You are a child of God who is loved and forgiven by the grace of Jesus Christ. You have the Holy Spirit within you.
You don’t have to constantly compare yourself to others or strive to be like them because you were perfectly made by your heavenly Father. He has already gifted you with every talent and experience you need to carry out His purpose for your life.
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:10
Remember…
You are chosen by God.
You are gifted by God.
You are forgiven by God.
And you are loved by God. Always.
